Many people in Australia are concerned about products, media etc. having modern AI technology replace jobs for talented and passionate workers. However, concerns about these technologies are difficult to fight against as a consumer due to a lack of disclosure of AI being used in ways that are hard to notice for many people. As an example, Netflix has recently reported 300 projects released this year have used AI, with little explanation as to what exactly has and has not used it, meaning many Netflix subscribers who have strong feelings on the subject and would prefer to avoid watching media made with AI technologies, may have unintentionally viewed such media and be none the wiser.
We therefore ask the House to consider the idea of mandatory standardised disclosure on the usage of artificial intelligence in the development of products and media sold in Australia, and in advertising material promoting such products and media, with strong penalties for failure to effectively inform a consumer about the nature of such things.
