QUESTION
Other countries are moving to invest in their domestic computing capacity. The UK government has announced funding of around £2 billion and the Singaporean government has advised an allocation of S$1 billion over five years. No reference to funding for investment in Australian domestic AI computing capacity could be identified within the Budget. Could the Minister explain: why is the Government not similarly positioned to invest in public computing capacity for research and development, safety and security; how is the Government preparing Australia to capitalise on what is being described as the next industrial revolution; active Government participation would provide the opportunity to ‘lead by example', will the Government actively invest in the sector; and how will the Government assist Australian businesses and local industry to develop domestic AI computing capacity.
