Description
Several so-called Teal independents say they're open to forming a new political party to counter the rise of One Nation, and offer an alternative to major party politics. The independents include ACT Senator David Pocock and Sydney MPs Zali Steggall and Allegra Spender, who say they've been discussing the prospect of forming the new party But Kate Chaney and Monique Ryan have ruled themselves out of such a party, along with four other independents in the Lower House. The Coalition, meanwhile, is arguing it's still the best credible alternative to Labor. Educators are voicing their concerns about students using artificial intelligence to complete assignments and schoolwork. A new report that surveyed thousands of teachers across New South Wales has found Australia's education system is facing real and urgent risks from students' use of AI. The report says teachers have trouble recognising when students are using the technology and that its use is affecting learning outcomes. China has launched a spacecraft with three astronauts heading to its space station. The much-anticipated launch comes as Beijing prepares for its first crewed moon landing by 2030. One of the astronauts aboard the craft is scheduled to stay at the Tiangong space station for a year, in what would be among the world's longest single stays in space. American rival NASA is aiming to land astronauts on the lunar surface in 2028. Press the 'Follow' or '+' button on this show page to add us to your playlist, so you never miss an episode. Summary
This report highlights a New South Wales survey identifying urgent risks posed by student AI use to the Australian education system's integrity and learning outcomes. Educators signal an inability to reliably identify AI-generated content, which compromises traditional assessment frameworks and pedagogical efficacy. While focused on academic integrity rather than existential risk, the findings underscore the rapid, unmanaged proliferation of frontier AI tools within critical social institutions. The report calls for immediate policy responses to manage the disruptive capabilities of large language models in Australian schools.
