Bio

Anna Mae Duane is the Director of UConn's Humanities Institute and a Professor of English, specializing in the role of sympathy in political change. She is the author or editor of seven books, including 'Educated for Freedom,' which highlights the impact of the New York African Free School on the anti-slavery movement. She also co-directs the Yale Gilder Lehrman Center's working group on the Future of Slavery and Emancipation.
